Custom Bi-Color Australian Sapphire Engagement Ring

This one-of-a-kind engagement ring was custom created for a client seeking a truly non-traditional design—something bold, modern, and impossible to replicate.

At the center is an exceptionally rare elongated marquise bi-color sapphire, chosen intentionally for its dramatic length and striking presence. The client envisioned a stone that would command attention and span the full top of her finger, and this elongated silhouette delivers exactly that—elegant, architectural, and undeniably eye-catching. As the stone moves, its natural bi-color zoning shifts in the light, revealing subtle changes in tone and depth.

To enhance the sapphire’s unique shape, I designed a custom partial bezel / sculptural prong setting that emphasizes the stone’s natural V-points. This modern approach not only protects the sapphire but also refines the overall look, avoiding the rounded “eye” effect that can occur with marquise stones in more traditional settings. The result is a sleek, intentional design that feels contemporary and refined.

The band gently tapers into the setting, creating a clean, streamlined profile that allows the center stone to remain the focal point. Beneath the mounting, a hidden initial was incorporated—visible through the stone when light passes through it, almost like a stained-glass or looking-glass effect. It’s a deeply personal detail meant only for the wearer to discover.

This sapphire is completely untreated and sourced from Australia, and its rarity cannot be overstated. We were unable to locate even a second stone like it—no backups, no replacements. This ring exists as a true one-of-one.
